Designing a Marble Staircase with Statement Lighting

Designing a Marble Staircase with Statement Lighting

Marble staircases are a popular choice for entrance halls and double-height living spaces because the veining in each slab catches light differently depending on the angle. That's exactly why lighting design matters as much as the stone itself.

Recessed step lighting along the riser highlights the tread edges and improves safety on the stairs at night, while a pendant or chandelier above the stairwell throws light across the marble surface, drawing out its natural pattern. Warmer light temperatures (around 2700-3000K) tend to bring out the honey and grey tones in most marble varieties better than cooler white light.

If you're planning a marble staircase, it's worth choosing your slabs and lighting fixtures at the same time rather than as separate decisions - the finish (polished versus honed) also changes how much the surface reflects light. Bring us your floor plan and we can help you plan both together.
